"From the Parlor to the Plantation: The Evolution of the Acoustic Guitar in Prewar Blues"
Description: Join Bruce Roth, Tom Wentzal from Vintage Blues Guitars in Lancaster and guitarist 'Blind Boy' Paxton share their experience with the guitars that helped shape popular music in the first half of the twentieth century. A variety of acoustic guitars closely associated with the emergence of 'blues music' will be discussed and demonstrated, including early "parloir" guitars, ladder-braced "Stella" guitars, "Leadbelly" 12 string guitars, and a variety of "resonator" guitars. Following the presentation, attendees are invited to ask questions and play the guitars.
12:30PM - 1:30PM
Bass player Kenny Aaronson will demonstrate and talk about the bass and what makes him one of the most sought after sidemen in both studio session work and live gigs. Kenny, while playing with Bob Dylan was named Bassist of the Year by Rolling Stone Magazine. Just some of the artists Kenny has performed with include: Chuck Leavell, Mick Taylor, Joan Jett, Neil Schon, Graham Parker, Dave Edmunds, Brian Setzer and David Gilmore.
2PM - 3PM
Liberty DeVitto who was a drummer for Billy Joel for 30 years, will be sharing his experience and talents. Liberty has also perfromed session work for Carly Simon, Phoebe Snow, Karen Carpenter, Rick Wakeman, Bob James and Meat Loaf.
4PM - 5PM
Bram Wijands, the amazing Boogie Woogie and Stride playing Jazz pianist from Holland by the way of Kansas City will be flying in with his talent and knowledge just for the LRB festival.
